Brain Candy is a free, live program of prose, music, poetry, and visual art curated by the Emerging Writers Network.
This month's featured artists:
Music - Jake McArthur
Jake McArthur was born and raised in a rural suburb of Detroit. Embracing the honesty of his grandfather's favorite singer/songwriters at the kitchen table and framed by the noise of a nearby metropolis, Jake's style became that of a true storyteller who understands the energetic pace of modern culture. He's currently embracing stylistic changes while he continues to master his craft by wrapping both hands around commercial accessibility and holding in his heart the echoes of his rich childhood roots. He's a rustic metropolitan fashion plate whose sound is dressed in warm, conversational lyrics.
Poetry - Sarah Carson
Sarah Carson is the author of several poetry collections, including How to Baptize a Child in Flint, Michigan, winner of the 2021 the Lexi Rudnitsky Editors’ Choice Award from Persea Books. Her writing has appeared in the Rumpus, the Slowdown, Guernica, the Missouri Review, the Nashville Review and others. She is also the inaugural poet laureate of the Kobayashi Society for the Appreciation of Hot Dogs. Read more of her work at stuffsarahwrote.com
